UbiSim is excited to announce the March 2025 release of version 1.17, packed with features designed to enhance realism and streamline the learning experience for nursing students.
This update includes enhancements to create even more realistic custom scenarios and introduces time-saving tutorials to ensure nurses are fully equipped to navigate the UbiSim environment.
1.17 is laying the groundwork for an even bigger release coming in the Spring. Stay tuned!
Here’s what’s new in UbiSim 1.17:
New Nursing Equipment Features
Penlight
The penlight is a diagnostic tool that allows learners to assess pupil reactivity. Learners shine the penlight on a virtual patient’s eyes to observe pupil reactions (constriction, dilation, or non-reactivity). This tool prepares learners to identify and act on critical neurological symptoms in real-world scenarios. Facilitators can track how many times learners test the eyes, encouraging repeated practice and skill refinement.
The starting state of the pupil (e.g., normal, slow, or non-reactive) can be customized by the Intuitive Editor, allowing for varied levels of complexity.

Adhesive Bandage & Small Gauze Enhancements
To provide a more authentic clinical experience, small adhesive bandages and gauze pads have been introduced for puncture-based wounds and post-injection care. This update helps learners practice proper wound care techniques, improving their confidence and readiness for real-world nursing tasks, and master essential skills, such as wiping the first site of blood on a diabetes finger prick. The UbiSim platform will capture all of these actions, or missed actions, for the learner.
