We’re excited to announce what’s new at UbiSim! We’ve been focused on expanding our pediatric offerings, creating diverse characters and scenarios, and implementing the fixes you’ve requested! As always, these upgrades are included with your subscription and you’ll find they are available for download when you launch UbiSim!
Here’s what our Lead Nurse Educator, Christine Vogel, MSN, RN, CHSE, CHSOS, had to say about the release, “We are thrilled to release new feature updates including infant lethargy, pallor, jaundice, and a 12-lead EKG to increase fidelity and broaden scenario design options for our infant patient.
A new character has also been added to our family member options, and offers flexibility to design scenarios with diverse families. In addition, our latest release adds two new medical surgical scenarios with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) focused learning objectives to our catalog of evidence-based nursing scenarios.
These scenarios provide nurse learners with the opportunity to interact with patients of different cultures, beliefs, and communities in a relevant way, and encourage learners to self-reflect on their own thinking and awareness of bias.”
New Diverse Scenarios:
Jeremy Anderson - Mpox: This scenario focuses on a patient's experience with stigma relating to an endemic illness. Learners practice their therapeutic communication skills and employ empathy to support the patient's emotional and mental well-being.
Tanisha Reaves - HIV & Shingles: Learners implement nursing interventions for a patient newly diagnosed with shingles and HIV. The patient is experiencing difficulty with accepting the diagnosis of HIV and learners must provide support and education to the patient.

New features
Pediatric
Pallor and Jaundice are now available for the infant, in the Physio State settings (these options were already available for other patients)

- A lethargic state is now available for the infant, similar to the tired state available for other patients.
- The 12-Lead EKG is now available for the infant.

Other
Bed position
The position of the hospital bed can now be configured to different angles at the start of the simulation! Choose from the same options you have in the room - Supine, Semi-Fowler’s and Fowler’s. This setting can be found in the ‘Environment’ tab.

Draft Scenarios
You can now better manage your scenario availability with Drafts! By default, new (or duplicated) scenarios have draft status - you will then mark them as ‘Published’ to enable access to them within classes or for any learner accounts.

Orange Juice
Giving orange juice is now trackable as a condition, for use in critical actions, performance gaps, and transitions.

“Other” Characters
New “other” characters that add flexibility and DEI potential to family members.

Fixes & Improvements
- Our tutorial guidance system has been refreshed to make it easier to find the next object the tutorial is indicating.
- In addition to our new ‘family member’, our original two other characters have received makeovers! They are now more realistic in appearance and movement.
- The system for sending simulation events to the backend has been improved - this helps prevent lost feedback report data in the case of internet disconnection during a session.
- The Atrial Fibrillation 12-Lead chart has been updated for better recognizability.
- Various objects have improved hand poses when held for accuracy and procedural best practice
- Various small usability improvements in the Editor, including:
- Tooltips upon hovering over the action icons in a class
- Clarification of the initial, programmable state of new blood products
- Visual picker for the family member character
- Search has been added to classes

Why Nursing Simulation Should Start on Day One, Not Later
Don’t treat nursing simulation as a backup. Research shows early VR simulation reduces student stigma by 32%. Here's how to integrate it from day one.
