The Challenge: Scaling Clinical Training Across Rural Wyoming

Wyoming's nursing programs are spread across rural institutions, each facing the same constraints: limited access to physical simulation labs, inconsistent training experiences across campuses, and a healthcare workforce shortage that demands more practice-ready graduates. Traditional simulation, tied to manikins, on-site faculty, and fixed schedules, couldn't scale to meet the need. Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP) needed a platform built for clinical education and a partner who could deploy it across every campus consistently.

The Approach: Building a Statewide System

Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP) evaluated every proposed immersive technology use case against workforce alignment, scalability, and measurable impact. UbiSim scored highest, offering direct curricular fit, realistic patient scenarios, multiplayer capability for team-based learning, and built-in analytics. The nursing simulation track became the anchor use case of WIP's broader statewide initiative.

UbiSim set the ceiling for what was possible. CM&D built the system to reach it, using their proprietary SITE Framework to manage the phased rollout, faculty training architecture, and multi-campus infrastructure across all eight institutions.

The Results: From Launch to System Maturity

Wyoming launched UbiSim across all eight campuses simultaneously in Spring 2025. The first semester alone delivered 1,417 sessions and 52% of all statewide VR platform usage, with 79% of instructors making VR required coursework.

By Fall 2025, the program had matured. Sessions grew another 10%, and 26% of all usage was multiplayer, as faculty began building team-based simulation directly into curriculum design. Learning value climbed from 7.7 to 8.4 out of 10, and 98% of faculty confirmed they intended to continue using the platform.

Independent economic analysis confirmed the program's contribution to the state: $2.2M in economic impact, 199 jobs created, and a projected 690% ROI for WIP.
